Sundari is a quiet, small-scale tropical farm and botanic garden.
We have a quarter-mile of ocean horizon, groves of Ohia forest and meadows dotted with coffee, cacao, mango, banana, avocado, macadamia, starfruit, noni, breadfruit, neem and citrus. There are goats and chickens and unlimited songbirds. We grow and sell medicinals and vegetables and decorative garden florals online and in our nursery. We offer farmstay accommodations befitting the wild and rustic nature of this part of the island, as well as yoga classes, morning meditation, gathering spaces, art, native cooking and culture classes. There are two ponds and a half-mile walking loop. We have weekend hours where people can drop in and just enjoy the gardens and a beverage.
Personal retreats are popular here. People come here to write, to relax, to work in the gardens, to inquire within- in essence to calm their nervous systems and see what wants to be born in them. While here, our facilitators can provide personalized yoga classes, guided meditations, yoga nidra, psycho-spiritual counseling, deep listening and witnessing, and energetic healing. Self-guided retreats are also welcome. When we lead group programs, we include all the elements we have discovered over time to be most impactful to helping people become the best, clearest, most powerful version of themselves. We aim to make welcoming space for doing inquiry and preparing ourselves to do even better work in the world.
Larger groups come, too, for single day events like memorials, or weddings. If you would like to host a residential event, we can offer the land as a full buyout to sleep 26, or in combinations of 12, 8, or 16 for semi-private groups.
Sundari is 35 minutes to the airport at Hilo, 15 minutes from the town of Pahoa, great organic food store, small restaurants, basic chain stores and basic services (eg, medical). We’re even closer to the micro-town of Kaimu/Kalapana, with it’s Wednesday night local market (and live music). We abut miles of walking trails. The recent lava flows are about a 20-minute drive. There’s a black sand beach at Kehena, and a new, low slung black sand beach at Pohoiki, a great surfing spot.
You can visit our online store (coming soon!), read our letters on personal development, off-grid living, and connection to nature, or come and visit us.
We hope to see you on the land.
