Sundari is a quiet, small-scale tropical farm and botanic garden.
We have a quarter-mile of ocean horizon, groves of Ohia forest and meadows dotted with coffee, cacao, mango, banana, avocado, macadamia, starfruit, noni, breadfruit, neem and citrus. There are goats and chickens and unlimited songbirds. We grow and sell medicinals and vegetables and decorative garden florals online and in our nursery. There are two ponds and a half-mile walking loop. We have weekend hours where people can drop in and just enjoy the gardens and a beverage.
Sundari is 35 minutes to the airport at Hilo, 15 minutes from the town of Pahoa, great organic food store, small restaurants, basic chain stores and basic services (eg, medical). We’re even closer to the micro-town of Kaimu/Kalapana, with it’s Wednesday night local market (and live music). We abut miles of walking trails. The recent lava flows are about a 20-minute drive. There’s a black sand beach at Kehena, and a new, low slung black sand beach at Pohoiki, a great surfing spot.
