Live Differently.

Welcome to Sundari, on the wild southern corner of the Big Island of Hawai'i, nestled between Ohia forest and the vast Pacific, the volcano and the undimmed night sky. We are an off-grid farm and intentional community. We host gatherings, concerts, classes and events. We do a lot of things together: grow food, dance, sing, practice yoga and martial arts, share ideas and heal. We are learning to live in more attunement and presence.

Our Divine Feminine Guide for this month is…
SARASWATI
Saraswati (Sanskrit: सरस्वती, IAST: Sarasvatī) is the Hindu goddess of knowledge, music, art, speech, wisdom, and learning.

Saraswati is the daughter of Lord Shiva and Goddess Durga. It is believed that goddess Saraswati endows human beings with the powers of speech, wisdom, and learning. She has four hands representing four aspects of human personality in learning: mind, intellect, alertness, and ego.

Lillie & Sol will be leading an Invokation & Embodied Practice to access the inner SARASWATI transmission, cultivating an open channel for creative inspiration to flow!

We will then melt into the open Spa space and optional Goddess delights (vegan food, treats, tea etc)

Last night at dance, as people shared in the closi Last night at dance, as people shared in the closing circle about how grateful they were for a safe space to fully express their grief at loss, to be fully themselves, how they are going through it and dancing twice a week is a gift, how they are back on the floor after injury and how much they missed it, how the DJ Element broke their hearts open and delighted them, how the sound healing with Lucia's drone and the voice and the didge resonated in their cells. All the gifts and offerings each has for their neighbors. The touch and the tea and the fire and the moon and rain. The dance is ritual, its healing space of dance. It's a gift. It's a practice, it can't be owned. I'm very grateful for my first ecstatic guide Zuza Engler, in 2008 in Sebastopol, CA, and for my teacher Lucia Horan, the lineage carrier of Gabrielle Roth, and for the space holders in Sausalito and Fairfax and San Francisco and Oakland, who hold those containers almost anonymously every week without fail where I could melt like that. It's a privilege to give a dance space back, whether that's sundari e dance on Wednesday, or organic ecstatic once a month, or dance just because at the spa. We are lucky. We are lucky to be free to dance and sweat and cry and move as we wish. The floor is yours mine and ours.

Christopher just reminded me of that Christian idea "wherever two or more are gathered in the name of spirit, there is love."

Indeed. 😘🧡😘🧡😘

Ripe for the picking: so many star apples!!! This juicy custardy fruit is abundant next to the Ganesh pond. Don’t eat the skin or the seeds only the interior fleshy part. The taste has been described as “a mix of a watered-down sweetened condensed milk, a hint of blueberry, and a hint of lychee or rambutan”

Star apple health benefits:

Helps to improve digestive health. Good amount of fiber.
High in Vitamin C.
Helps control Diabetes. The fiber helps keep the blood sugar under control.
Rich in antioxidants
Helps to prevent iron deficiency anemia.

The nuance and the noticing. The nuance and the noticing.
Grief is Love. I’m walking on our little spot o Grief is Love.

I’m walking on our little spot of earth, in what, only 6 years ago was a thriving ʻōhiʻa (O-HEE-YAH) forest- one of the healthiest in the area. The ʻōhiʻa lehua is native to Hawai’i- it the first tree that grows on a hardened lava flow. These trees have been here for a long time- the oldest tree is four thousand years old, and in the last decade, over 100,000 of the 850,000 estimated trees have died, from a previously unknown fungus. I sit here and remember how it was 6 years ago, while looking at the spindly bare tops, and wonder what it will be like 6 years from now. There is no cure for the fungus, the rot, the concordant beetles- nor apparently for the human unwillingness to wash their cars or their boots or tools before moving from one grove to the next.

They are said to represent the quality or core frequency of the ancient Hawaiian culture, the spirit of aloha, loving cooperation, resilience. The local medicine woman say the trees will die unless the people come back to the frequency of Aloha, stop the violence, fighting, drinking, abuse, and return to love.

So today, I’m grieving for the ʻōhiʻa lehua, for what was and what could be. While it feels hopeless to save a forest or an entire species, we do what we can: we plant uninfected seedlings, we quarantine the tools, we speak with other land stewards.

I try not to feel disconnected, or to bypass my feelings and just assume that other trees will grow here. In meditation, I try to feel the trees and listen to what they are saying, and find that they don’t actually have an emotional quality: it is more of Amor Fati.

While they prefer to live, and are developing their own defenses, if their time is over, they will give way.

This coming week 3/15 we have @av8trix @michaelaloha with Riddle hosting. And thank you to Ridge for hosting the last 2 weeks, you held the space so beautifully. Love from Sundari
